ABOUT US
First Step™ is a company and a curriculum, dedicated to creating an exciting and profound learning experience for students, ages 4-8. Our courses are authored by Steven David Horwich, who is also the author for the Connect The Thoughts curriculum. First Step courses use different techniques than Connect The Thoughts, as our courses are carefully designed for younger students.
We are a curriculum provider, largely for home schoolers. We are NOT a school, or school program.
We do not offer a mathematics program. We feel there are many good math programs out there, and do not see the need to reinvent that wheel. Specifically, we have seen the Saxon Math program work very well for many students, using their levels 5/4; 6/5 and 7/6. We've observed these books (in their home schoolers' editions) teach basic mathematics effectively. We have seen students adept with and interested in mathematics do well with Saxon Algebra 1/2. Additionally, we've had good luck with AGS Publishing's Consumer Mathematics, also well-designed for home schooling. For a low-cost, diligent home school alternative to Saxon Math, we recommend Math Mammoth.
